Penalties for a Reckless Driving Conviction
Failure to contest the ticket will result in a misdemeanor conviction and other penalties. Most reckless driving offenses will result in an assessment of up to 6 points against your driving record. In Alabama, your driver's license can be suspended if you accumulate 12-24 points within two years. In addition, third offense reckless driving will result in driver's license revocation.
- First offense reckless driving: In addition to points assessed on your driving record, you may face up to 90 days in jail and a fine of $25-$500.
- Subsequent offense reckless driving: In addition to points assessed to your driver's license, you may face 10 days to 6 months in jail and a fine of $50-$500.
